The19th Annual Northern California Homebrew Festival (NCHF) is coming right up, Sept 16-18.
This is the biggest event of the year (short of the June AHA convention), featuring 500+ homebrewers representing about 25 Northern California homebrew clubs.
This year, for the first time, the Marin Society of Homebrewers will have a booth, to pour beer and offer food, and to meet homebrewers. This is a great way for our club to become known in the Northern California homebrewing community. As of today three MaSHers have registered to go: Jim Files, Mark Ruder and Kevin McMahon. We could certainly use help planning and staffing the booth, so please consider joining our group in this historic undertaking for our club.
Here is a quick summary of the event. It takes place at the Lake Francis Resort, a campground/cabin/RV resort at a small lake in Dobbins, CA in the Sierra Foothills north of Grass Valley. The drive is about 1 hour 15minutes from Sacramento and 2:30 from San Rafael.
Participants arrive Friday to make camp and start setting up, and with “Hoppy Hour” from 4-6. There is an optional Brewers Dinner from 6:30-10 (come hungry!), or potlucks in the campground. Saturday morning is more set-up, with the official festival 11-10. Evening activities include more food, music, club activities at their booths or campground. Sunday is to relax, pack up and hangout. You can leave Sunday as early as you want if you need to get home. An event schedule is here: http://www.nchfinfo.org/festival-info/festival-schedule.html
Some people bring friends, wives, kids and dogs, and there are lots of activities, (lake, boat rentals, walks, swimming pool, game room) although kids and dogs are not allowed on the actual festival grounds. More camping and activity information is at www.lakefrancisrv.com.
Cost is $60 per person including 2 nights tent or RV camping, $40 for camping-only guests. Brewers Diner is $60 and well worth it.
If you choose to go, register soon at nchfinfo.org. The festival has sold out in the past, and the brewers’ dinner usually sells out. Note, you can get a complete refund up to 10 days before the festival (by Sept.10).
